The community is available and eager to build the school. All they need to
start it is some bags of cement.

Meeting with the headmen, under a Mango tree. I also suggested that the
next time we meet under this tree; there will be women present!

DRESCRIPTION:
In the combined villages of Msala/Manga/and Sasika villages, there is a small school, being held in the local Reform Church of Zambia Church. There are 84 children under two teachers, Maloni Nwombe and Isaac Nkhoma. These students are in grade one and two, the older children walk further down the valley to a government school. Of the 84 children, there are fifteen orphans of which three are double orphans. The village has a PTA that has the responsibility for paying the teachers, which they have not been able to do for six months. They are paid in maize, but since they have had a crop, failure in the country the community has been unable to pay. I gave the PTA money to pay the teachers ($10.00 per month). The community has started to fire the bricks for a new school because the Reform Church has asked the school to not use the church anymore. I will be in the village rehabilitating their wells so I will try to convince the church to let the school remain, until the community can build a school. Until they get a school, they desperately need a chalkboard. At the cost $100.00 delivered to the school.

LOCATION: Msala/Manga/Sasika Village, Petauke District, Zambia

COST: $100.00 US to $12,000.00 US

UPDATE: In 2006 the students were able to move from the village church to their own school. A small 2 classroom school.

PLEASE NOTE: This cost is for the complete project or smaller donations, even just for the chalkboard can be credited to the project and you become a partner in this project.
