Another thought!

October is here to stay! The comforts of home are so very easy to take for granted. Than the conscience swings into high gear and my memories of village life come back! Community Schools that go through pathetic motions to teach the village children, the grey colored drinking water that is being carried into the village from a water source that is quickly drying up in the hot season. The look of hopelessness on everyone’s faces from the old to the young, even the village dogs seems to fear tomorrow. Nothing is changing for these people in the sense of progress. New born babies are replacing the young and the not so young that are taking up residency in the village cemetery. Health care has a long way to go before it breaks even with death; death caused by sicknesses that never seems to free the village. Diseases we take for granted.
Zambia moves on. Foreign NGO’s and charities exchange workshops with each other, their new four-wheel drives and offices full of computers show their importance. The government officials prolonging their daily jobs into a career. Their physical appearance shows no missed meals or hard work.
Getting back to the village. The children’s bulging stomachs prove the lack of proper nutrition. Their runny noses and sores definitely have a connection to water borne diseases from their drinking water. Education becomes only a social event instead of a necessity. The older girls start the ritual of become wives and mothers and to look old before their time, delivering many of their new born to the village cemetery.
I really don’t think these people have any idea about bail outs and golden parachutes. Do they really need to know?
We are all as guilty of crimes against Humanity as Saddam and the other thugs of the world. Canada could help as a country and us as individuals, why is it that we won’t?
